Project 9 Portfolio

Portfolio (Scribd.com):

Project Corrections/Time spent: 2 hours spent on completely changing my imaging project to a different image. I selected the stop sign and slightly desaturated it, and adjusted the brightness on the fields. I also changed my business cards, and my letterhead. Kept the same colors but different design set up.

Top 3 things learned in this course:
1) How to properly use layers and how they benefit by naming each one
2)How to use masks in photoshop
3)How to use Word to design an advertisement

Future application of Visual Media: My future job is to work in Advertising, so Visual Media has really given me a great introduction to Advertising and how to use different programs to design. I would also like to have my own cupcake company one day and I can use the skills I have learned in Visual Media to design my own advertisements and business cards. And lastly, I will use my visual media skills to design my own wedding invitations.

Description: A Brochure created for a made up company

Process: I first started off by deciding what company i wanted to do for my brochure. Since i had already made a few logos for a cupcake company, i decided to continue with this idea. I stuck with the same colors of brown in pink as in my logo for my brochure. I chose my background color of brown for the outside, and pink for the inside. I first created the front of my brochure. I made the little lace trim by using the pen tool. I wanted to create something simple but still attractive. I then moved on to my inside panel where i decided to add 3 pictures of cupcakes. I tried to use interesting font choices to give the brochure some more interest. I then had to use photoshop to remove the background on images to add into my brochure and create a text wrap. I added in the lace trim inside my brochure aswell, but reversed the colors.

Top 3 things learned:
1) How to text wrap an image
2)How to add a bleed to my brochure
3)How to take the background out of an image

Project 7 Webpage

Image

  • Description: A webpage I created to show my logo for “Midori’s Cupcakes”
  • Process: I first had to create an html document in text wrangler and added in the necessary tags and content. Once I had all of my content written up, I added a link to a pre-made CSS document. Once they were linked together, I continued on by changing the fonts, colors, and padding’s in the CSS Document. I did this by finding the Hex codes in Photoshop, and changing the fonts families. Although at times I found HTML very frustrating, i really enjoyed learning how to to make my own website using HTML and CSS and it was a very good learning experience that will help me in the future. My final word count in my document was 296.
  • Top 3 things learned:
    How to use HTML
    How to add color and change the fonts in CSS
    How to use tags-start and finish
  • Programs/Tools Used:Text Wrangler,photoshop
  • Font Family #1 (all names) & Category:”Trebuchet MS”, Helvetica, sans-serif;
  • Font Family #2 (all names) & Category:”Arial”, Helvetica, sans-serif;
  • Hex Colors: Brown:#522900,Brown:#392e21,Light pink:f7e5ef, :Light pink:#f8c9d2,Dark Pink:e63387
  • Changes made to the CSS: I changed the Font families to Trebuchet MS”, Helvetica, sans-serif; and”Arial”, Helvetica, sans-serif; and i also changed the colors of the fonts, and background. I changed the padding around the photo.

Business Card (Large layout):

Description: Create a letterhead and Business Cards for a company i made up.

Process: First I had to create a cupcake for my new logo. So once i had one cupcake I copied and pasted it another two times and changed the color of the wrapper and the frosting. Once i had 3 different cupcakes i designed the background of the business card. I decided to use pink and add light colored strips to make it fun. For my letter head, i used the same colors as my business card and added my logo.
Top 3 things learned:
1) How to create objects by using the pen tool
2)How to use the eye dropper tool
3)How to brand a company by using Indesign
Programs/Tools Used:Adobe Indesign
Logo – Font #1 Name & Category:American Typewriter, serif
Logo – Font #2 Name & Category:American Typewriter,-serif
Stationery – Font #1 Name & Category:American Typewriter-Regular Condensed-serif
Stationery – Font #2 Name & Category:American Typewriter-Regular-serif

How the logo represents the company: Midori’s cupcakes is a small modern cupcake shop. I think that my business card represents the company very well because its fun and girly.

Project 5 Logos

Image

Description: I designed 3 different logo’s for a company I made up.

Process: The first thing I had to decide was what did I want to make a logo for. So i decided on making a logo for a cupcake shop. And I’ve always wanted to own my own, so for fun I designed some for myself. For the first logo, I made the whole logo a cupcake. I had to use the pen tool to create the cupcake, and then select certain parts of it to change the color. To add the sprinkles I used the pen tool again, making thicker small lines in different colors. The cherry was a circle, and a curved line. Once i had the cupcake down, i just needed to add font. My second and third logo’s are pretty simple. I repeated the cupcake in both. The second logo was just font with the cupcake on the side, and the third was a shape logo where i used a circle with a border and added the font and cupcake.

Top 3 things learned:
1) How to create images using the pen tool
2)I learned how to add text to objects
3)I learned how to use the direct select tool, and use anchor points
Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustator
Top Logo – Font #1 Name & Category: Lobster 3.1- script
Top Logo – Font #2 Name & Category:Bebas Neue-sans serif
Middle Logo – Font #1 Name & Category:Biko-Sans serif
Middle Logo – Font #2 Name & Category:soymilk-Script
Bottom Logo – Font #1 Name & Category: AdamGorry-Lights-decorative
Bottom Logo – Font #2 Name & Category: Champagne & Limousines-Sans serif
How the logo represents the company: Whenever i think of a cupcake shop, i think of fun colors and designs. So i tried to incorporate those elements into my logos. Midori’s Cupcakes is a very modern, fun cupcake shop. I used colors that would stand out to people and tried to make them different! And since its a cupcake shop, I had to add a cupcake into my logos for a good visual.

Votes on favorite logo:
Top Logo = 3/12;

Middle Logo = 6/12;

Bottom Logo =3/12;

My favorite logo was the middle logo because i like how simple it is. I like the contrast in fonts i used, and the different colors. The cupcake is a simple touch that brings it all together.

Project 4 Montage

ChristmasVisualMedianew

Description: Inspirational Montage! Christmas themed

Process: First i decided on the theme I wanted to do for my montage. I was in the Christmas spirit last week! So once i decided on the Christmas theme, I chose 3 different images from the internet and placed them into a folder. I used the Christmas tree as the background for my montage. I then placed the image of the Christmas presents in the left hand corner and used the brush tool to blend the two images together. I also decreased the opacity a bit. I then took the photo of the bokeh Christmas lights, and stretched it over my entire image. I then used my brush tool once again to blend it in with the entire image. Finally, i added a Christmas quote. I tried to add contrast between the size of the word “Believe” and the rest of the quote. As for my filter, i went to the filter galley and chose a texturized filter that gave my image a canvas type look.

Top 3 things learned:
1)I learned how to blend images together using the brush tool and adding a mask.
2)I learned how to add different layers to Photoshop, and that they are essential when using photoshop
3)I learned how to add text to my montage and play around with the sizes

Project 3: Imaging

8.5 x 11 Project

put-into-project

8.5×11 project:
Description: I took a photograph outdoors near the Spori building of BYU Idaho. I then had to resize and edit it in photoshop.
Process: I first took my photo and resized and cropped it to 6×6. After i took the quick selection and lasso tool to select the part of my image that i wanted to keep in color. Once i had the part of the image i wanted, i made a new layer. This aloud me to desaturate the background without effecting the part of the image i wanted in color. Once i desaturated the background, i also desaturated the part of my flower a bit so the color didn’t stand out so much. I then adjusted the brightness of the background.
Top 3 things learned:
1) I learned how to use the Lasso tool to select a certain part of the image
2)I learned how to desaturate a part of my image
3)I learned how to size and crop my image in photoshop
